Walton County Short-Term Ordinance Compliance Guidelines
As part of the Walton County Short-Term Rental Ordinance, each single-family home or townhome must meet several compliance requirements, including (but not limited to):
- Fire Extinguishers: A specific type of fire extinguisher must be installed on every floor. These should either be in plain view or clearly labeled on a door.
- Emergency Lighting: A security light must be installed to illuminate exits in the event of a power outage.
- Entry Signage: A sign must be placed at the property’s entry listing essential information, including:
- The beach flag program
- The nearest hospital
- Occupancy restrictions
Additionally, the ordinance requires annual registration with the county. For initial registration, several items are needed, including:
- A to-scale floor plan showing the locations of fire extinguishers and smoke alarms
- A photo or to-scale sketch of the property’s exterior, including fences, pools, parking areas, and garbage receptacle locations
Since the registration process is highly property-specific and remains tied to the property even when ownership or management changes, Coastal Dreamin will defer the responsibility of registration to each owner. However, we are happy to assist with specific items (see pricing below).

Once your property is registered, you must obtain a neighborhood-specific sign from a sign company recommended by your HOA. This sign must be mounted per your HOA’s guidelines and will include:
- The registration number
- “Coastal Dreamin” as the agent

Please note these signs can only contain specific information. The recommended sign company can assist with these items and the delivery and placement.
